PeriscopeTM, a McKinsey Solution acquires 4tree enabling Greater Customer Insights for Businesses to Drive Revenue Growth

Acquisition will enable retailers, FMCG and B2B industries to increase revenue and commercial success through Big Data

New York – Sep 9, 2015 – Periscope, a McKinsey Solution, focusing on price, promotion, and assortment optimization, announced today that it has acquired 4tree, a Big Data solution company serving retail, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and B2B industries.

The increased focus on consumer-centric and loyalty programs have created opportunities for retailers to differentiate from the pack and accelerate gains in the battle for growth, margin and customer loyalty. McKinsey research has shown that retailers who use Big Data effectively to inform merchandising decisions are more successful than their competitors, more than doubling growth rates and achieving significantly higher margins.

With this acquisition, PeriscopeTM is able to bring clarity to customers’ buying behavior at near real-time speed, enabling improved assortments, promotions, next-product-to-buy recommendations, and product pricing.

Sebastian is a leading expert in the retail industry. Before he founded 4tree he worked several years as a retail analytic consultant in Europe.


At 4tree he is taking care of company strategy, customer relations and the product concepts.


Sebastian studied economics with a major in statistics. He holds a Bachelor and a MasterDegree from the University of Applied Sciences in Muenster (Germany) and a MBA from the University in Charlotte (USA).

Daniel Hagemeier

CEO & Founder

Daniel is a leading expert in the Cloud industry, who developed the technical base of the highly scalable big data application. As a founder of 4tree Daniel is taking care of the company strategy, the technology stack and the product concept.


Daniel is well-known for his IT passion and entrepreneurship. He founded his first software company at the age of 16. Later he founded a leading German Cloud Provider and sold his company to Host Europe Group, one of the largest Hosting Provider worldwide. For more than 4 years he was a member of the management board and responsible for the international cloud business P&L of Host Europe Group.


Daniel studied economics with a major in IT in Muenster and research theory at the University of Lüneburg. He holds a Diploma with distinction from the University of Applied Sciences in Muenster (Germany). He is author of several IT books, publisher of the first "World Cloud News" magazine and he published more than 500 technical expert articles over the last 10 years.

Waldemar Lau

CAO

Waldemar is a data and analytic expert with several years of work experience in the retail industry.


At 4tree he is responsible for the overall data and analytic strategy, data-driven solutions and client care.


Waldemar studied economics with a major in statistics and marketing. He holds a Bachelor and a Master Degree from the University of Applied Sciences in Muenster (Germany) as well as a second Bachelor Degree from the University of Hull (United Kingdom). Furthermore, in 2011 he published a textbook about how to predict payment defaults in the insurance industry by using Data Mining.

Prof. Dr. Reiner Kurzhals

Statistical Expert & Founder

Reiner has 22 years of experience in Statistical and Data Analysis consulting. Before he co-founded 4tree he worked over 12 years at the lead Statistical Advisor for the largest European-based strategic consultancy firm, Roland Berger in Munich, Germany. For over 16 years Reiner is tenured Professor of Statistics and Quantitative Management Methods at University of Applied Sciences Muenster.


At 4tree Reiner is responsible for strategic cooperations, client acquisition and sales.


Reiner holds a Masters degree in Statistics from Iowa-State-University, Ames, Iowa and a PhD in Biostatistics from the Medical University of Hannover, Germany.

Dominic Woste

Data Expert & Founder

Dominic is a leading expert in the Big Data and Statistics area. Before he founded 4tree he worked several years as a freelance consultant in the field of Big Data.


At 4tree he is taking care of Data and Algorithmn.


Dominic studied economics with a major in statistics. He holds a Diploma from the University of Applied Sciences in Muenster (Germany).

Dr. Ingo Bax

Recommender Expert

Ingo started programming at the age of eight. Before he joined 4tree, he held different industry positions including Principal Software Architect at Xing and different academic positions including Professor of Computer Science and Web-Engineering at Muenster University of Applied Sciences.


Ingo has a diploma in Computer Science (with distinction) and a PhD in Engineering (with distinction) from Bielefeld University.

Steven Zinke

Head of Operations

Steven is an expert in Big Data Operations. Before he joined 4tree he worked in several companies as Senior System Administrator.


At 4tree he is taking care of System Operations in an Big Data Environment.


Steven studied IT-economics with a major in IT at the University of Applied Sciences in Muenster (Germany).

Oleksandr Lobunets

Head of Frontend Engineering

Oleksandr is an expert in software engineering with 15 years of work experience in the software industry.


At 4tree he is responsible for the engineering of the frontend of our Shopper Insights Tool.


Oleksandr studied physics and technology in National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" and holds a Master Degree in Applied Mathematics. He also holds a second Master Degree in Media Informatics from the RWTH Aachen. His experience includes development of large scale web-applications, mobile applications, communication middleware for Internet of Things, establishment of continuous integration and delivery, Cloud infrastructures automation and maintenance.

Dennis Löhr

Head of Backend Engineering

Dennis is a expert in Big-Data-Backend engineering with several years of work experience in the software industry.


At 4tree he is responsible for the engineering of the backend of our Shopper Insights Tool.


Dennis studied computer science. He holds a Bachelor Degree in applied computer science and a Master Degree in information technology from the University of Applied Sciences in Muenster.

Jörn Volkening

Product Manager

Jörn is an expert in developing easy-to-use software products with several years of work experience in the software industry.


At 4tree he is responsible for the planning, specification and implementation of our Shopper Insights Tool.


Jörn studied Media Computer Science. He holds a diploma from the University of Applied Sciences in Osnabrück (Germany).
